My personal opinions on what’s happening out there!

G’ bye MJ!

Seeing the shows where the stars paying tribute to MJ, I remember those good ol’ times when he was really the King of Pop. However, I can’t help wishing that the world had treated him better during the last years of his life. He definitely deserved better.

No ‘pratibha’ in Pratibha ?!

Right from ‘talking to spirits’ to making incorrect disciminatory comments, the UPA government’s presidential nominee seems to be the worst qualified candidate for the top post. This on top of countless accusations of scams and frauds. This banner is in support to those asking for answers to all the allegations.

A sight to behold!

If you could skim the top of the roads today in Chennai, you’d probably see multicolored shiny things on the move! Everyone wearing helmets! What a lovely sight!

I was expecting to see quite a few people wearing these protective gears, but was pleasantly surprised to see almost everyone on roads, right from the moped riders to those riding the pulsars, wearing helmets :)

There were still those who were reluctantly carrying the helmets on their bikes, to be worn near the signals and those who were just wearing the helmets with the straps loosely hanging about (which is even more dangerous!)

Wearing helmets have been compulsory in cities like Kolkota and Mumbai for a long time now and it’s really late that Chennai has woken up to it, but as cliched it is, it’s true that it is better late than never. Even if twenty percent of the riding population sticks to wearing the helmets, it will help reducing head injuries in case of accidents. This blog gives more information and statistics:

“The Chennai traffic police recorded 1136 fatal accidents in 2006; of these nearly 50 per cent were two-wheeler accidents. According to the Police Department only two people have died with helmets.”

Apart from the law enforcing wearing of helmets, wearing of seatbelts has also been made compulsory.

What remains to be seen is if the police is stringent in implementing this law and how long general public continues to follow this religiously. The fines for violating ranges from 100 rupees for first time and upto three hundred rupees for subsequent misdemeanors.  Only posterity will tell!

Rahman roots for the Taj

I was assuming that this New Seven Wonders Search was just one of those fake money laundering ventures. But as it turns out, it’s genuine and they are actually going to announce the new wonders of the world on July 7th. What got my notice was when i saw this piece of news where i came to know that A R Rahman is composing a song to promote our very own Taj! Got to lay my hands on the song soon.

"Though I know he is the man who committed the crime, I acquit him, giving him the benefit of the doubt"

When such a statement is made by a Judge, it kinda makes you lose your belief (or what’s left of it) in the sytem! I wonder how the retrial is going to be any better than the actual Priyadarshini trial.

PM dozes off…er..flags off Bangalore Highway Project

If this is how the projects starts…..then i cannot help but wonder how it’s going to get completed, or worse, IF it’s going to get completed!

A R Rahman’s claim to Fame

Now, no matter how the movie is…i can be sure that it atleast starts off well. A Fantastic alternative to the otherwise sober clip of the ‘high flying National Flag’.

Chaar Laloo Dena Please !

Laloo seems to be quite popular among kids in Bihar, but for reasons probably no one would have ever imagined of: Lalu ka Khazana

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any lower?

Headline: ‘Woman runs away with Lover, leaving husband and two kids’

Headline: ‘Drunken man rapes five-year old’

Headline: ‘Elderly woman murdered during robbery’

First they sold us films, then violence, rapes and they kept going lower and lower to sell their paper and when you just thought that it coudn’t get any worse, they come up with this. Calling it disgusting is being kind on it. And what Crass Language! Reading the article, one gets the feeling that the author is not criticizing the society, but just venting his frustration at his own impotency(pun intended).

Grow Up !!!

Well said Sudhish!

The Big Shout !

Surfing thru’ the channels, i suddenly saw well dressed men and a woman in the midst of caocphony and mayhem. I assumed that it was a scene from the ‘Diet’, the Japanese parliament. Turns out it’s just another episode of ‘The Big Fight’ in NDTV. It’s been a while since i watched this programme, so i just settled down for some enjoyable debating. But i was thoroughly disappointed, not just the shouting and fighting(though i must admit that it made for some enjoyable viewing), but by the general degradation in the quality of the programme.

The topic of today’s fight(?!) was “In this materialistic society of today, has socialism become Irrelevant?” and was fought about by Vijay Mallya, the Kingfisher Casanova, Atul Kumar Anjan, General Secy, CPI, and the other two, their names i cannot recollect, though I should mention that the woman had joined the fight via video conference from Chennai. The ‘Fight’ started off with Mallya giving ‘The First Punch’(believe me, that’s what they call it!)Then it slowly degenerated to what any debate ultimately circles down, to one question : Is capitalism better or communism good? and one reason for all the problems of this world: Big Bad Brother US.

It makes you wonder if these programmes are telecasted just to showcase the oratorical skills of the host, who apparently gets to talk most of the time and doesn’t let the speakers complete a single sentence, armed with the bell which goes ‘bing’ as soon as the host realises that the speaker is starting to make sense.

I have decided, instead, to watch ‘PKS’(being telecast in SUN TV, the old faithful) for a welcome change. Now here is a movie that is absolutely illogical, but i am thoroughly enjoying it. I guess i am suffering from PTSD
